Humor is hard. Humor in the wake of a tragedy is even harder: there’s a reason The Onio n took two weeks t o publish their first post-9/11 issue. Tina Fey’s “ Weekend Update ” response to the Charlottesville, VA massacre—wherein she called on the American public to ignore the Nazis and stay home with a sheetcake—was a game attempt to create humor out of our shared grief and shock, but it missed the mark. The last thing we need right now is for people to stay at home and eat their feelings. It’s time to put down our forks and get to work.
Phyldelux, that sounds just like me. Same age as well. Before menopause kicked in this time last year I was well on my way to getting my degree in IT - I only had a months work to go. Then menopause kicked in. I think if it had just been the mental slowness I would have coped. But, I also got the physical problems of hot flushes, 'crawling' sensations over my skin PLUS what you described - the pains in my lower leg area. It seems to be more like the tendons/muscles rather than the bone. If I push on my achilles tendon (at any time) its really sore. Its at its worse when I first get up and after sitting for awhile then lessens after about 10 minutes but it never goes away completely. I stopped going for morning walks as I thought it would be aggravating the problem but it made no difference so I've resumed - its still painful to walk but not getting any worse.
It seems to be directly related to meno as thats when I first noticed it. I hope it goes away when meno is over (whenever that may be!). Has anyone had this? and (a) is there a way to lessen the pain? (b) does it eventually go away?
Photographer Pablo Maurer stumbled upon a few of these resorts while exploring the abandoned Penn Hills Resort. Once a honeymooner’s destination, the so-called “Paradise of Pocono Pleasure” closed in 2009 and now looks like the set of a zombie apocalypse film. During his visit to the deserted resort, Maurer found an old matchbook adorned with an illustration of the Penn Hills pool at the height of its popularity. He looked at the illustration and then at the ruins of the pool and came up with the idea to photograph the current state of similar abandoned spaces that were once depicted in old postcards.
